Good Morning! Rochelle here to share a project I completed for the shop last week – The Iris Shorts by Colette Patterns!
The Iris shorts are one of three brand new patterns by Colette for the Spring/Summer season that we now carry in the shop. I’m a huge fan of Colette Patterns because their instructions are well explained and easy to follow. They also have detailed online tutorials to help you through zipper installations and things like that. Highly recommended!
I started out by tracing the pattern onto pattern paper. This is a great extra step to take if you aren’t sure what size will give you the best fit. By tracing the pattern instead of cutting it, you have the ability to try a larger or smaller size. Not to mention you can save your uncut pattern for future use and all of your original pieces will remain intact. All of the supplies you may need for this project, including the tracing paper, can be found here at nido.
I love that the pocket lining gives these shorts a little surprise pop of a fun pattern! This is a great way to incorporate a bold print or loud color into a pair of plain denim or twill shorts if you wanted a pair that were more subtle on the outside.
I followed the tutorial on Colette’s website for some extra instruction on installing an invisible zipper since I typically prefer standard ones. The photos online really helped me achieve a truly invisible zipper for a very tailored looking pair of shorts.
Here are the Iris shorts all finished! What do you think?
These shorts are great because you can use a wide range of fabric types, weights, patterns, and colors. You can also sew option 2 for a nautical/sailor style pair with buttons! How cute!
Well that’s it for today. I’m working on two other Colette patterns for the shop this week, and will be sharing those finished projects soon.
Have a great week everyone!
