Sewing With Children

Have you ever sewn with children?  My little man is just over 2 now & I have to admit I hadn’t even thought to tackle a sewing project with him until his preschool was looking for a few parents to help the children sew little pillows for passover.  Right away I volunteered for the job & before I knew it I was surrounded by eager preschoolers wanting to learn to sew–it was AMAZING! Even Franco sat on my lap & pushed the peddle as I sewed his project together.  The kids choose their own fabric pieces, helped sew them together on a machine, stuffed them & then watched as Beth–THE fastest hand sewer I have ever seen–finish up.  It was a blast!  I definetly look forward to another sewing session with the kids at Gan Yeladim.

Stylish Dress Making

I am always thrilled to see our delivery guys–a box or envelope comes & I can’t help but smile, knowing right away that some new fabric/yarn/pattern/book/notion has finally made it’s way to nido! So today when our new Colette Patterns came I was as giddy as a school girl, fumbling to open the box as quickly as possible while calling Susan with my free hand to let her in on the excitement! Colette’s patterns are truly this exciting around here–trust me. Designer Sarai Mitnick creates one of a kind, vintage inspired garment patterns…

Flower Bouquet

blog1

A ton of people have been asking about Natalie Chanin’s flower bouquet that we made for nido.  It is a pattern from Alabama Stitch Book, Natalie’s first book, which is full of lots of lovely reverse applique & stencil designed projects.  I am currently coveting this book–I can’t put it down & all of the photos really inspire me to want to sew something unique to add to my handmade spring & summer wardrobe…

but I will probably start with something a bit simpler like the Tea Towels…

or the Bunny Rabbit….

I do seem to be a bit behind though because Natalie’s NEW book Alabama Studio Style was released this month.  There have been great reviews of the book by Anna Maria HornerHeather Ross so check out their websites & of course,  stop by nido to check out both books for yourself.

Class Photos

We had so much fun at the reversible apron class at nido this week! Our class was full of great people wanting to learn a little something new & each one of them walked out with their aprons on, which they all completed in just 3 hours flat!

Studio Scrap Bags

blog2

We whipped up some studio scrap bags the past couple of days & let me just say I think they contain some of nido’s finest fabric! Enchino Linen, Tina Givens Treetop Fancy, P & B essential solids, Amy Butler odds & ends from all of her collections, Kokka, Erin McMorris Wildwood, Denyse Schmidt Hope Valley, Anna Maria Horner Little Folks Voile, Joel Dewberry Deer Valley, a little bit of home dec weight from Vicki Payne’s For Your Home & even some leftover Marimekko fabric from the quilt I made in January! These puppies really do have it all & at 1 yard per bag, they are perfect for quiting projects!

Our Littlest Fan…

For those of you who know (& let’s face it LOVE) Susan, nido’s talented sewing & knitting instructor extraordinaire, then you know that on December 11, 2009 she gave birth to a healthy baby girl…Louise is so adorable & becoming more & more aware & engaging each time I see her. Lucky for me I have the absolute pleasure of hanging out with her at least once a week since her mama is a crafting machine & can’t stay away from nido!

Here she is hangin’ out…
