wiksten patterns

I am so very excited to be carrying Wiksten Patterns! I’ll bet I can’t get through the week without trying to make one. The only problem will be which to make first, the Tova or the Tank Dress??

ironing board recovery project

photo-6

Hello, Rochelle here to share a quick little project I completed for the shop recently. Anyone who’s taken a class with us has probably noticed our ironing boards are well loved. It was high time for them to don some new covers! I used this really great tutorial and had two great looking covers in no time at all.

photoHere’s a before and after shot so you can see what a huge difference such a quick project can make! (The dark spots on the left board are iron burns, the dark spots on the right board are shadows. Yes, the one on the right is the brand new fresh one! Sorry for the lack luster photos…)

photo-4I used 1.75 yards of Denyse Schmidt’s Flower & Dot in the green colorway, and one bag of craft batting to complete this project. The pattern calls for two yards of fabric, but even with the added seam allowance, I had plenty of wiggle room.

photo-3The steps involved with this pattern are very simple and straightforward. Basically you trace your current ironing board to make a template, add 2.5 inches to that template, quilt some batting to the fabric, and sew a quick channel for the draw string!

photo-2photo-1Ta-da! A good as new ironing board! If you’re looking for a quick and easy day project to brighten up your sewing or laundry room, give this one a try. Some new fabric and fresh batting really makes a world of difference. We’ve already had some positive feed back from last week’s Sew Liberated Tunic class!

I’m glad to hear our NEW covers are getting their fair share of love.

Speaking of the Sew Liberated’s Schoolhouse Tunic, we just received a new shipment of those patterns, as well as Colette’s new Spring/Summer line!

Many more new items are expected in the shop this week so stay tuned!

Happy Monday!

We just finished up our Flat Bottom Zipper Pouch class at the shop. And what fun it was!  We feel so fortunate to have such wonderful customers that we gladly call friends.

For those of who who are itching for a new project and would like to join us for a class this week, there are a couple of openings in Tuesday’s Sew Liberated Schoolhouse Tunic class, plus a few in Sunday’s Working with Knits class. It’s a  great way to spend  an afternoon or evening, and who couldn’t use a few tricks to add to their sewing repertoire.

meet mudge

He is 3 months old and it was pretty much love at first sight.

We found Mudge through All Breeds Rescue.  I can not say enough about this great organization. All Breeds Rescue partnered with Oh My Dog in South Burlington and together they help save unwanted dogs. The organization  drives to South Carolina once a week and rescues as many dogs from high kill shelters as they can. This includes puppies and older dogs alike. The facility itself is well kept and clean. The rescue dogs are provided a safe and loving environment while they wait to be adopted. And the staff are patient and caring. All and all, wonderful people who are helping out a ton of dogs who would be otherwise be, well, gone. If you are looking for a dog, I would definitely recommend them.

And as for Mudge, he will be in the shop Wednesdays and Thursdays so feel free to stop by and meet him.

spring time fever

I have never dyed eggs, at least I have no memories of ever doing so, and have never been moved to try and dye them with Franco either. That was, until I saw Christine’s post on how to naturally dye eggs. The photos were so beautiful and the colors of the eggs turned out amazing! I was truly inspired and only 2 days after reading her blog post, I found myself rounding up the troops and having an egg dying party! We went with all 4 colors and made the dyes pretty much exactly as she instructed, (we only had half the amount of beets to use so our red turned out lighter).

I have to admint, it wasn’t very thrilling for the kids since they couldn’t help much and there was a lot of waiting involved. But afterwards they thought they were pretty darn cool.

I think I’ll be packing these for lunch all week long. What a fun spring time treat. Thanks Sarah, Rosa and Meg for taking the time to join us for our very first egg dying adventure.
