sneak peek

Denyse Schmidt’s new collection, Shelburne Falls, will be coming out in early 2013. Looking forward to sewing up a little something with this collection–there is a purple color way. Yep.

Needless to say, nido will be getting it in as soon as it is released.

too hot to handle oven mitt

One of my all time favorite inspiration go-to books is Denyse Schmidt Quilts. It has smaller patchwork projects that are very beginner friendly as well as full on quilt patterns. It’s one of those books that we always stock at nido because we have sewn so many projects from it and highly recommend it to our customers.

I bought tomato red pom pom trim years ago with every intention to make the ” Too Hot To Handle” oven mitts from the book but sadly never got around to it until now. And look how fabulous they are! Totally should have made these sooner.

Making things for the kitchen is always very gratifying because they are items I actually use over and over again. With family gatherings on the horizon, new oven mitts will add just the right handmade touch. Up next, “Shimmy, Shake & Bake Apron.”

creating atmosphere

I have been spending the better part of 2 hours looking at books and browsing the internet collecting ideas for  table settings. I have always enjoyed the details involved in hosting a dinner with family and friends. Setting the table and creating the atmosphere is one my favorite parts. This year we are hosting a Thanksgiving gathering at our home.

Elegant. Rustic. Simple. Eclectic. Well-worn. Foraged.

Just some words inspiring this quest.

colette sencha blouse

sencha4

Introducing Colette’s Sencha Blouse! Yep, another Colette pattern. What can we say, they’re awesome patterns! This beautiful summer blouse is feminine and slightly tailored, but not too fitted. The Sencha features pleated tucks at the front and back, a button or snap back closure, and key hole or tucked neckline. The version we’re sharing with you is version three, which is the button back closure and key hole neckline option.

1007-cover-med

This pattern is great for beginner sewers who want to advance to the next level of sewing, and expand their skill with hand sewn finishes and small details. The silhouette on Sencha is very forgiving, which is great for those who are in between sizes, or don’t want to fuss with a muslin fitting before they sew.

We used a lightweight shot cotton in color “Coal”. I love shot cottons because they are typically two different colors woven together to give you the look of a solid. Coal is a great color because it’s black at first glance, but in certain light could pass as deep navy blue! It’s really pretty. Sencha would look amazing in any of the voile cottons here too! What fabric would you pick?

Thanks for taking a look!
