stuffed toys

By: Stephanie

As we get further into the holiday season, I keep thinking about quick projects that I can give as gifts but that will also use up some of my copious leftovers yarn from past projects. I think I have discovered the perfect gift that fulfills both requirements for all of the children and children at heart on my holiday crafting list. I love making the Ysolda Teague’s stuffed toys.

We have Elijah and Sophie made up in the shop and they each took less than 8 hours to make. Elijah was made from some worsted weight Swans Island yarn plus some Mountain Mohair leftovers. Sophie used the same Mountain Mohair that I used to make Elijah. Together, they both took less than a bag of poly-fill.  I have also seen some great ideas on the Internet for lavender and rosemary additions to the fill that would make the gift extra special. The toys are knit in the round and stuffed with the fill as you go. They are perfect set down and pick up project as well, which is always a plus during holiday preparation. The pattern instructions are wonderful in showing where the limbs and ears should be picked up and knit, so the guess work that can lead to unique looking toys is taken away.

Keep checking in with us for fun, fast holiday projects!

snack & sew tutu

Have you had a chance to join us for Snack & Sew yet? Here at nido we have been having a great time with this potluck craft-along, held the second Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m.  Participants bring a dish to share and a project they’d like to dedicate an evening to working on.  At the December 11th Snack & Sew, we will be offering the chance to make a fancy tutu to outfit the fairy princess at your house. A $15 dollar fee covers the cost of materials for one tutu, and sewing machines are available for the first six people to sign up, although you are welcome to tote your own machine along as well.  Call the shop to reserve a space today!

give the gift of inspiration

This holiday season nido has something very special on offer for gifting your crafty friends and family with something that they will truly love! Here at the shop we have created beautiful gift sets for the holidays that include some of our favorite patterns, books, yarns and fabrics (not to mention some very good chocolate!).

There are gift sets designed with both sewers and knitters at heart, and there are different sizes to choose from as well.  We are offering gift bags filled with our favorite knitting and sewing notions; a perfect choice for stuffing a special person’s stocking or for giving something unique to a co-worker, teacher or friend.

We also have both knitting and sewing gift boxes on hand.  These crafty kits each include a popular book or pattern, along with all of the necessary notions and fibers to put the project together.  And, as a very special extra something, the recipient will also find a delicious assortment of Lake Champlain chocolates tucked inside.

Gift boxes come wrapped in tissue with a bow and gift tag attached and are available now!
